This month, the Mokma family will be heading back to the US and we say goodbye to them as missionaries at COTP. It was back...
Why We Exist
High poverty rates in Haiti are impacting a family’s ability to stay together and healthy. There are many contributors that put families at risk of separation: loss of caregiver(s), poverty, disability and disease, mental illness, lack of education and resources. In Haiti specifically, these contributors are even more prevalent. Due to these common contributors, there are families without the resources to care for their children as well as children who are left without a family to care for them at all. This is why we exist; to see every Haitian child in a healthy Christian home and family.
Our Mission & Vision
The vision of Children of the Promise (COTP) is a healthy Christian home and family for every Haitian child. We pursue this vision by carrying out our Christ-centered mission, which is to provide excellent physical, emotional, spiritual, educational and economic care for at-risk children and families in Haiti, empowering the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
Writing New Stories
Since founded in 1988, Children of the Promise has grown in the knowledge of the key contributors that put families at risk of separation. In the early years, COTP primarily served as an orphanage, taking care of orphaned and abandoned children and getting them into adoptive families. In the years to come, COTP became more and more familiar with the all too common stories that were leading children into our orphanage. Believing that these stories were highly preventable, COTP began asking some key questions:
How can we intercede earlier on in a child’s story to lower the risk of them being orphaned?
How can we help strengthen Haitian families before they get to the point of desperation?
Today, Children of the Promise is a leading example for ethical orphan care and is helping Haitian families write hope into their stories through multiple preventative and family strengthening programs!
